Your team picks a captain — they submit the answers.
Play 4 rounds, chat with your team, try not to lose it all on the final question.
No app to download. No account to create. No password. Just the code.
📱 Joining a Game
1. Get the code. Every game has a unique 5-character code like K7M2Q. Your host will put it on the big screen or send it to you.
2. Enter it. Open Find Game in any browser and type the code. You can also go straight to thetriviaspot.com/play/YOURCODE.
3. Pick your team. In the lobby you'll see two options:
Form a Team You're first — name the team and yourself. You become the captain.
Join a Team Pick a team that already exists from the list, then enter your name.
Everyone on a team joins from their own phone. There's no limit on team size — a team of one works fine too.
💻 Phone vs. Desktop
📱 Your phone (or laptop)
This is your player screen. It shows the current question, your answer box, your running score, and team chat.
The layout is built mobile-first, but it works identically in a desktop browser — use whatever you have.
Any modern browser is fine; nothing to install.
📺 The big screen
Your host runs a separate presentation view on a TV or projector showing the question, the timer-free pacing,
and who has answered. Scores are deliberately hidden during questions so nobody can reverse-engineer
what the other teams wagered.
Refreshing is safe. Your screen updates automatically as the host advances — you never need to reload.
If your phone locks or you switch apps, just come back; you'll land on the current question. Your spot is held for 2 hours.
If you fully lose your session (different browser, cleared cookies), just re-enter the code and rejoin your existing team.
🏆 How the Game Is Structured
4 rounds. 4 questions each. 16 questions total, plus a final question at the end.
Every round has its own category, announced on an intro screen before the questions start.
Within a round:
✓ Questions 1–3 are regular questions with a points wager.
✓ Question 4 is always the bonus question.
After each question the host reveals the correct answer on screen. After rounds 1, 3 and 4 you get a
leaderboard; after round 2 you get halftime standings. Then it's the final question, final standings,
and a wrap-up screen.
Question formats: most are free-text — type your answer. Some are multiple choice
with four options; tap one to select it. The options appear in the same order on your phone and the big screen.
There is no countdown clock. The host controls the pace and moves everyone on when the room
is ready. Get your answer in before they advance — you can change it as many times as you like until then.

Round 1
In case you forgot already:
Which ancient civilization built the mountaintop city of Machu Picchu?
The correct answer was
Inca
Then the host reveals it to the whole room.
🎯 Scoring & the Wager System
Regular questions: bid 2, 4, or 6
This is the part that makes it a strategy game. On each of the three regular questions in a round,
your captain assigns a point value to the answer — 2, 4, or 6.
Each value can only be used once per round. Three questions, three values, so by the end of the
round you'll have spent exactly one 2, one 4, and one 6. If you're confident, put the 6 on it. If you're guessing,
dump the 2.
Correct = you gain your bid. Wrong = you get 0. No penalty on regular questions — always answer,
even if it's a wild guess.

Confident on this one — so the 6 goes here, and it's spent for the round.
🌟 Bonus questions: 0–8 points, graded by the host
The 4th question of every round is a bonus — so there are four of them per game.
✓ No wager. You don't bid on these.
✓ Always free-text, never multiple choice.
✓ Worth 0 to 8 points, awarded manually by the host.
✓ Partial credit is the point. Bonuses are usually multi-part ("name 5 of the 8…"), so write down everything you've got — each piece can earn you points.
🔥 The Final Question: wager 1–20, and you can lose it
One question at the end of the game. Your captain wagers anywhere from 1 to 20 points before
answering.
Correct = you gain your wager. Wrong = you lose it. This is the only point in the game where you can go
backwards — and it's routinely where the lead changes hands.
👑 The Captain
Only the team captain submits answers. Everyone else on the team sees the question and the answer box is
replaced with a note explaining that the captain is submitting.
The first person to create the team is captain by default. If they have to leave — or they're just
bad at it — the host can reassign the captain to someone else mid-game.
So how does everyone else contribute? Chat. That's the whole point of it.
💬 In-Game Team Chat
Every question screen has a floating 💬 chat button in the bottom corner. Tap it and a chat drawer
slides out.
✓ It's your team's private room. Only your teammates see your messages — other teams can't.
✓ It's how non-captains play. Argue about the answer, throw out guesses, vote on the wager. The captain reads the room and submits.
✓ Messages arrive instantly — no refreshing. A badge on the button shows unread count while the drawer is closed.
✓ 200 characters per message. Keep it snappy.
✓ The host can broadcast to every team at once — those messages show up in your chat labelled "Host".
Heads up: your host can read every team's chat. It's private from other teams, not from the host.
Keep it clean and don't put anything in there you wouldn't say out loud.
Note: chat is available whenever a question is on screen — regular, bonus, and the final. It steps aside on the
answer-reveal, scores, and halftime screens.

Your teammates thrash it out; the captain submits. Host broadcasts land here too.
📊 Scores & Standings
✓ Your team's running total is always visible on your phone during questions.
✓ Full standings appear between rounds and at halftime, with the top three highlighted.
✓ The host grades every answer manually, so close-enough spellings and alternate phrasings get a human judgment call, not a computer's.
✓ The host can also go back and correct any score from earlier in the game if something was missed.
✓ Ties stay ties — there's no automatic tiebreaker, so a shared first place is a real outcome.
💡 Tips for Your Game
✓ Pick a captain who's a fast typer and won't wander off.
✓ Always submit something. Wrong answers cost nothing except on the final question.
✓ Save your 6 for the question your team actually knows — don't spend it on question 1 out of enthusiasm.
✓ On bonuses, list everything you can think of. Partial credit is real points.
✓ Do the math before the final wager. If you're in second by 8, wagering 4 can't win it.
✓ Use chat. A team where only the captain is thinking is a team of one.
